On Saturday, February 25th, I photographed a soul-churning gospel performance by the Illumination Chorale at the stunningly beautiful Broadway Presbyterian Church in NYC. ILLUMINATION is a culturally and socially diverse group assembled for the purpose of enhancing the spiritual, musical and cultural well-being of the global community of people through the presentation of gospel music. Through performances, concerts, appearances, and recordings, Illumination Chorale perpetuates the use of gospel music as an art form to provide avenues of empowerment, hope, liberation, and expressions of faith by all and for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, or sexual orientation.
Out of 355 photos taken, I selected a sampling of what I felt best gave a rounded view of the night. Always a documentarian, I've placed the photos in a presentation that would aim to tell the story of the Illumination Chorale as well as describe the energy of the evening's performance. Unfortunately, I've run tnto some technical issues with the music aspect of the presentation, and it's taking some time to resolve. However, you can still VIEW the presentation! Even in the inanimate objects. You move us to hear them, see them, feel them, know them and you. It is quite evident that you walk and see and connect in present mind with the ancestors.

Just had a chance to finally look at the photos from the performance. These are great! Ocean really is a wonderful photographer. The slideshow really captures the feeling of that night!
