I could not enter people's lives and world's with my camera, hoping to tell their story and not do the same to myself. Now that I have cancer, is not the time for me to hide in darkness, but to really stand in the light. I have spent years documenting marginalized people and communities. I imagine there is strength in trusting me to tell their story, even if only in a single image. I trust myself enough to in turn, tell my own story with the hopes of inspiring, educating and providing some level of hope. (Photo-Carl, homeless in front of the Limelight Club, NYC).
